Between 1962 and 1976, Poulidor completed the world's biggest cycling race, the Tour de France, 14 times. This was also the case on his last arrival on the Champs Elysees in July 1976 (3rd place overall). In his inimitable career, "Poupou" won the Tour of Spain in 1964. He took seven stage wins in the Tour and won classics such as Milan San Remo or the Flèche Wallone and became French champion. Eight times he finished the "Grande Boucle" on the podium in Paris without having worn the yellow jersey for a single day.

Raymond Poulidor remained a well-known figure in cycling, especially in the Tour de France, even after his career. After competing 14 times as a rider, he participated in the Tour de France 36 more times as part of the 'caravan,' including as the face of the French bank LCL.

1964

The elbow duel

Final at the Puy the Dome. Poulidor and Anquetil climb shoulder to shoulder. Poupou attacks to late and becomes second in Paris with a gap of 55 seconds.

1962

The first Tour

Poupou starts his first Tour de France - with a broken hand! Nevertheless, he wins the 19th stage and finishes third.

1965

Second again

Behind Felice Gimondi, Poupou once again finishes second in the Tour. 2:40 minutes seperate him from the overall victory.

1974

The cannibal

After third places in 1966, 1969 and 1972, Raymond Poulidor finishes second for the third time, behind the cannibal Eddy Merckx.

1976

The last grand boucle

For the last time Poupou compets in the Grand Boucle. At the age of 40 he onces again finishes third.
